Taking time to listen: Changing minds about suicide

Mindfulness helps schools: There’s scientific evidence that educating mindfulness in the classroom reduces behaviour problems and aggression among students, and enhances their happiness levels and ability to pay attention. Teachers trained in mindfulness also show lower blood pressure, less negative emotion and symptoms of melancholy, and greater compassion and empathy.

A few minutes can save a life if we take the time to listen, says the daughter of a man who was ignored. Jillian Marie Atwell, of Bridgetown, says it can take about 10 minutes to flip a person’s mind away from suicide and back towards living, but no mental health profession…Taking time to listen: Changing minds about suicide

Mindfulness basically calls for the passive observation of internal and external stimuli without mental response. It’s most explicitly, but not alone, laid out in Buddhist meditation texts.
